China keen to cooperate India on climate change negotiations

China today said it would work closely with India in future negotiations on Climate Change and is keen to step up cooperation with New Delhi in areas of forestry, energy efficiency and renewable energy. The two countries had yesterday formally backed the Climate Change Accord hammered out in Copenhagen last year calling for voluntary cut in greenhouse gas emissions.Top Chinese Climate negotiator Xie Zhenhua told a news conference in Beijing that in future negotiations and cooperation on climate change, both the countries will continue to be good partners. The government of India and China have signed an MOU enhancing climate partnership. He said the two countries have conducted policy dialogue and consultations on the issue.India, China, Brazil and South Africa brokered a deal at the Copenhagen Climate Summit that calls for limiting warming to two degree Celsius and commits rich countries to provide 100 billion dollars to developing countries besides 30 billion to the poorest and most vulnerable countries in the next three years to fight climate change.
