China has defended its response to tensions on the Korean peninsula, caused by the North shelling of a South Korean island last week. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said while some countries were brandishing weapons, China was being unfairly criticized for calling for a dialogue. China had offered to host an emergency international meeting on the crisis. But, the proposal was rejected by the United States, South Korea and Japan.
