China calls for more talks to resolve Iran N-issue

China has called for more talks to resolve the Iranian nuclear standoff. Talking to newsmen in Beijing today, a foreign ministry spokesman urged the concerned parties to step up diplomatic efforts and push for progress in talks to properly resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. The Chinese statement comes after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told a news conference in Moscow that his country was ready to consider new sanctions against Iran. Meanwhile, Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh has insisted that Tehran is fully cooperating with the nuclear watchdog. He gave this reaction to Iranian channel Press TV on the remarks made by IAEA's new chief, Yukiya Amano that Iran is still not giving sufficient information on its nuclear activities. Soltanieh reiterated that Iran will not do anything beyond its legal obligations. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also said in a news conference in Geneva that Iran is ready to continue its cooperation with the United Nations atomic energy agency over its nuclear program and there had been no diversion of his country's peaceful nuclear activities. He added that Tehran has welcomed further negotiations with world powers. Meanwhile China today called for more talks to resolve the Iranian nuclear standoff, after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Moscow was ready to consider new sanctions against Tehran. Foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters that there is still room for diplomatic efforts and he called for a resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic means. On the other hand Russian president Medvedev told in Paris after talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy ‘ Russia is ready, together with our other partners, to consider introducing sanctions if there is no breakthrough in the negotiations.’
