China again politicizes the issue of counter-terrorism as it now blocks US-India joint resolution to declare Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist

China has once again ended up defending terrorists without any logic or explanation as it has put a hold on US-India joint proposal to list Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist under UNSC sanctions. Experts said, China has again politicized such an important issue of countering terrorism and it's negative agenda against India stands exposed again as seen in past in case of listing of Masood Azhar as a global terrorist when China repeatedly put technical holds on UN resolutions. This comes a week before China would virtually host 14th BRICS summit on 23rd June. Chinese Foreign ministry said, BRICS countries, as a cooperation mechanism is an important one for emerging markets and developing countries as well as an important platform for South-South cooperation.
''
''Abdul Rehman Makki is a known Pakistan-based terrorist and is the deputy head of UN proscribed Pakistan based terrorist entity Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and who has been involved in a number of terror attacks in India, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, killing hundreds of innocent civilians.
''
''Replying to questions as to how China justifies creation of hurdles in the way of UNSC taking concrete actions against terrorists, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Friday, at a regular press briefing in Beijing said, "I would like to say that China opposes terrorism in all its manifestation and the actions we take in the 1267 ISIL and Al Qaeda sanctions committee of the UN Security Council, always abide by relevant procedures and rules. China will continue to carry out work in a constructive and responsible attitude." Experts who are aware of the functioning of United Nations Security Council said China is misusing it's position in the UNSC and abdicating it's international responsibility.
''
''Chinese spokesperson, however, refused to reply to questions on continuation of China's double standards in respect of global counter-terrorism efforts when in practice China is blocking listing of known terrorist against whom there exists overwhelming evidence as in case of Masood Azhar and now Makki. Only two days ago, there was a meeting between BRICS National Security Advisors, in which India's NSA Ajit Doval highlighted the need to bolster cooperation against terrorism without any reservation and today China has put a hold on listing of a terrorist.
''
''On a question of whether this issue is again going to add into the list of problems between the two countries and set them apart as seen in the previous case of Masood Azhar, Wang Wenbin said "as to China-India relations, our position is clear and consistent. We hope that India and China can work together and promote the relations to be sounder and more stable."
''Chinese President Xi Jinping will chair the 14th BRICS summit on 23rd June virtually. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict will be one of the top issues to be discussed as this will be the first meeting of all BRICS leaders since the conflict began in February this year. Jinping on Wednesday had a telephonic conversation with Putin ahead of the summit and said China is ready to play a constructive role to help settle the Ukraine crisis.
