Chilly winds and freezing temperatures continued to sweep North India. At least six people died due to severe cold conditions in the northern parts of the country. Four persons lost their lives due to severe cold conditions in Uttar Pradesh, while an elderly person died of chilling temperature in Jammu and Kashmir's Jammu district. In Uttar Pradesh, the foggy weather condition continues to disrupt rail and road traffic. The biting cold conditions continued unabated in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. AIR correspondent reports that Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 12.4 degree Celsius. The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered a minimum of minus 5.8 deg C, making it the coldest place in the valley.Rajasthan also continued to remain in the grip of biting cold with Churu recording the lowest temperature of 2.3 deg C in the state. Normal life was disrupted in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as severe cold waves swept the region.
