Children to help govt in preserving heritage sites

The govenment will involve children in preserving all heritage sites in the country. Releasing the first ever heritage site specific guidebook for Children on Humayun’s Tomb on the occasion of Children's Day in New Delhi today, Minister for Culture Ms. Selja said that Archeological Survey of India, ASI, should produce such guide books on all important sites, specially the World Heritage sites in the country so that children can be involved in the preservation efforts. She added this will not only involve children in the preservation of Heritage Sites but also inspire many of them to become archaeologists, architects and historians. She said, the country needs many more people to become actively involved in protecting India’s built heritage.

Appreciating the efforts of the ASI in this direction, Ms. Selja said that such publications should be brought out not only in Hindi and English but also in the regional languages. The Minister said, she expects ASI to complete this task within a year as ASI is celebrating 150th year of its establishment.
