World Day Against Child Labour is being observed today across the globe to highlight the need to protect the rights of the child .The objective is to eliminate child labour and other violations of fundamental rights of children, in all forms.
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is organising various programmes around the country in collaboration with UNICEF and ILO. An official statement said, the theme for this year is 'Justice for children – end child labour.
Our correspondent quoting ILO estimates reports there are 218 million child labourers worldwide. The Government 's 2001 census estimated that 12.7 million are involved in child labour and Children constitute 3.6 per cent of the total labour force in the country.
Seminars are being organised across the country by the Central government and various states to address the issue of child labour.
