Minister for State for Women and Child Development Krishna Raj said, child marriages show a declining trend of more than 20 percent. <br/><br/>In a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, she said, as per census 2011, the percentage of child marriage in 2011 was 31.6 percent, while in 2001 it was 52 percent. <br/><br/>She said, as per National Family Health Survey – 2015-16, the percentage of Women aged 15 to 19 years, who were already mothers or pregnant, was 6.3 per cent, which was 16 per cent in 2005-06. <br/><br/>The Minister said, Government has enacted the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 in order to forbid child marriages, rather than only restraining them. She said, a total of 573 cases were registered and 102 persons were convicted under the Act during 2014 and 2015.
