The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has asked Uttar Pradesh government to submit a report within four weeks on the death of around 40 children due to extreme cold in relief camps for group clashe victims of Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.

The NHRC said, the step was taken after the Commission took suo motu cognizance of media reports of death of children in relief camps.

The Commission observed that media reports if true raise a serious issue of violation of Human rights of infants and children. The NHRC has issued notices to the the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and also the District Magistrates of Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts.
