Chief of Army Staff General Suhag in Sri Lanka on 5-day visit

Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh Suhag is in Sri Lanka on a five-day visit at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.<br/><br/>The visit is expected to boost defense ties between the two countries as all aspects of defence cooperation, including Indian assistance to training Sri Lankan Army personnel, will be reviewed by the two sides. During the visit, General Suhag will meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Lankan Service Chiefs and the Defense Secretary.<br/><br/>Upon his arrival yesterday, General Dalbir Singh paid tribute to the Indian soldiers martyred during Sri Lanka's civil war by visiting the Indian Peace Keeping Force memorial at Battaramulla in Colombo.<br/><br/>General Suhag, who had served as a Company Commander in the Indian Peace Keeping Force, will be visiting Jaffna tomorrow, where he will visit the Palaly Army and Air Force base and lay a wreath at the IPKF memorial at Palaly. He will also visit Mullaitvu and Trincomalee, which were the other significant theaters of war against the LTTE.
