Chief of the Army Staff General Dalbir Singh Suhag met his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at Army Headquarters in Colombo today. General Suhag arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday on a five day official visit to review defence cooperation between the two countries.<br/><br/>During the meeting General Dalbir Singh and Lieutenant General De Silva spoke of the historic relations that have existed between two nations and recalled the deployment of IPKF in Sri Lanka during which General Dalbir Singh served as Company Commander in one of the first units to be deployed by India.<br/><br/> According to Sri Lanka Army, both the chiefs shared views on current security situation in the region and stressed the need to exchange vital information. General Dalbir Singh highlighted the importance of modernizing the Sri Lanka Army to suit international standards to meet the emerging threats. General Suhag will visit Jaffna, Mullaitvu and Trincomalee during his visit.
