Chief Election Commissioner terms paid news most disturbing

Terming the phenomenon of paid news as most disturbing, Chief Election Commissioner of India Naveen Chawla, has urged media to impose self regulation to curb menace. <br/><br/>Addressing the Sixth National Conference of a voluntary organization – National Election Wach, in Bhopal today, he said, it is not easy to track paid news and no regulator would regulate 100 per cent such things. <br/><br/>Mr. Chawla said media itself should develop norms to stop the tendency of paid news that is a big blow to democracy.<br/>The Chief Election Commissioner said, the Election Commission is trying to make photo election identity cards universal and all the voters of the country will be provided these cards by next year. <br/><br/>He also suggested that the Commission should be given power to deregister those parties which never fought election.<br/>
