The Full Election Commission Led by Chief Election Commissioner Mr. S.Y.Qureshi is in Puducherry to review the poll preparedness. The Union Territory goes to polls on the 13th of next month with neighboring Tamil Nadu. Mr Qureshi along with Election Commissioners Mr Sampath and Brahma will interact with representatives of various political parties this afternoon. They will brief the leaders on the steps taken by the Commission to ensure free and fair polls. The Election Commissioners will also take stock of the security arrangements during their meeting with senior government officials including Chief Electoral officer, Chief Secretary and IGP. Meanwhile, political parties are continuing informal talks to reach an understanding on seat sharing and forging alliances. The ruling congress party has two rounds of talks with the DMK on the seats to be shared. Our correspondent reports that the congress party has put forward a demand for contesting 20 out of 30 seats, leading to talks making no headway. Discussion on seat sharing is likely to gain momentum in the next couple of days as the notification for the polls will be issued on Saturday. Meanwhile, talks between the newly floated ALL India NR congress headed by Former Chief Minister Mr N. Rangaswamy and the AIADMK also is in progress.
