Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has arrived in Kokrajhar this morning to take stock of the situation. Mr. Chidambaram was accompanied by DoNER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, Hagrama Mahilary, in his visit to the relief camps. Mr. Chidambaram, who has been monitoring the situation, will hold meetings with top officials. He is expected to visit Chirang district later in the day.
He is likely to hold separate meetings with state Governor J B Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his council of Ministers. Mr. Tarun Gogoi will also visit Dhubri today to take stock of the relief and rehabilitations measures. Senior BJP leaders L K Advani will also be visiting violence hit Kokrajhar district today.
Meanwhile, the situation in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts has improved as no untoward incident was reported since Thursday. Day curfew has been relaxed by the district administrations. In another development, the Deputy Commissioner of violence hit Chirang and Kokrajhar districts, has been transferred.
