Chidambaram visits violence hit Kokrajhar

The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram reached Kokrajhar in Assam this morning to take stock of the situation.

DoNER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, Hagrama Mahilary accompanied Mr. Chidambaram in his visit to the relief camps.

The Home Minister visited relief camps at Titaguri High school and Bhotgaon Kashipara. Mr. Chidambaram also visited violence marred Jiaguri and Bamungaon village.

He is expected to visit Chirang district later in the day. He is likely to hold separate meetings with Governor J B Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Council of Ministers.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also visited Dhubri district to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures. The Chief Minister went to two relief camps at Bilasipara.

Mr. Gogoi said that people who have taken shelter at relief camps, can return to their homes very soon amidst proper security. BJP leaders L K Advani has also reached Guwahati. He will also visit violence hit Kokrajhar district today.

Meanwhile, the situation in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts has improved as no untoward incident was reported since Thursday. Day curfew has been relaxed by district administrations.

In another development, the Deputy Commissioner of violence hit Chirang and Kokrajhar district has been transferred.
