Home Minister P Chidambaram today urged the people of Assam to live together peacefully in a pluralistic society. Talking to mediapersons while presenting the report of his Ministry, he said Centre has offered full cooperation and support to Assam government in relief and rehabilitation of the people. He added that immediate relief and rehabilitation is the priority and strict deadlines have been drawn to establish police pickets in the sensitive areas for the security and safety of the people.
The Minister said that 65 companies of Central Reserve Police Force, CRPF have been deployed. More than 4 lakh people have been displaced in Assam and are being sheltered in 278 camps set up by the government. Mr Chidambaram said that there is no violence in Dhubri during the last 96 hours .
Mr Chidambaram said that the three additional districts of Sukma, Kondagaon and Balrampur of Chhattisgarh have been included in the Security Related Expenditure, SRE scheme to strengthened the anti naxal operations.
Appriciating the security forces for unearthing a tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, he expressed concern over the development. The Minister said his ministry is in constant touch with Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs and the matter will be taken up appropriately with Pakistan.
In reply to a question, the Home Minister said, the talks with NSCN (IM) have reached a sensitive stage as there has been a favourable response from different Naga organisations.
