Chidambaram: UPA-11 confident it would overcome present economic situation

Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said the UPA-11 was confident that it would overcome the present economic situation and get back to higher growth rate. He termed the BJP's criticism of the Prime Minister's performance as extremely distasteful.

BJP Spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad had demanded the resignation of Prime Minister following an article in the Time Magazine. Also Refering to the same, Time Magazine's article in 2002 that was critical of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mr. Chidambaram asked BJP leaders not to make too much of magazine articles.

The Home minister said the magazine had also recalled the splendid achievements of the UPA -I. He said, the government is confident that we will get out of this trough and we will get back to the high growth.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, if we read the Time magazine article carefully, inspite of everything it has posed a question, Whether India can come out of the current economic situation. Ms. Soni said, the answer is yes, we believe and are extrremely confident that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the country will bounce back to higher economic growth levels.
