Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will visit the violence affected areas of Assam tomorrow. During his two day visit, he will review the law and order situation in Kokrajhar and neighboring areas and will have meetings with senior officers of the state government. He would also assess the impact of relief measures and other steps taken to normalize the situation.

The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh visited the violence hit areas yesterday and announced cash compensation and a number of measures for the victims and the displaced. He also called for an immediate end to the violence and promised a proper inquiry into the ethnic clashes — which left more than 45 people dead and lakhs homeless.

He had announced a total of 300 crore rupees in aid and relief for the riot victims and the violence-hit areas.
