Chidambaram to visit Assam today

The Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram is arriving at Guwahati on a short visit this afternoon to review the law and order situation of Assam in the wake of latest killing of at least 24 innocent people by the outlawed NDFB anti-talk faction rebels in as many as five districts of the State. According to official sources, Mr. Chidambaram will have a review meeting with top Army, Paramilitary and State Police officials at the BSF camp at Patgaon. He will also have a meeting separately with the Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi and discuss the strategies to be taken up to contain violence by the militants in the State. The Home Minister will be accompanied by the interlocutor engaged for ULFA-Government peace talk Mr. P.C.Haldar.
