Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will meet the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and other top officials of Central and State agencies at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati on Thursday afternoon to review the law and order situation of the State. The Union Home Minister, who is on a two-day official visit to Manipur, will make a brief halt in the Airport on his return journey to New Delhi. The meeting assumes significance following Paresh Barua-led anti-talk faction of ULFA’s latest threat to target politicians and security officials of the State. State Home Commissioner G.D.Tripathy told AIR Guwahati Correspondent that issues relating to talks with militant outfits and Maoists presence in Assam, apart from law and order matters may come up for discussion in the review meeting. The Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday expressed serious concern over reported presence of Maoists elements in the State. The Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has also said that the Government was aware of the Maoists spreading their activities in the North-east and was taking steps to contain them.
