Finance Minister P.Chidambaram has sternly warned of action against service tax offenders. He said in Chennai today that the government is having enough information on economic wrongdoers and warned the offendres of tough action, including arrest. He said the government has to send a stern message, that such violations cannot go unpunished.Therefore, he said ten persons had been arrested recently for alleged service tax default across the country. Chidambaram said the government will also 'very closely' focus on sectors prone to chronic service tax evasion like consultancy, IT and real estate. Chidambaram was speaking at an interactive meet on Trade and Industry.
