Chidambaram seeks states support in tackling Naxalism

Home Minister P Chidambaram has expressed his deep sense of shock and grief over the attack by Maoists in Jamui district in Bihar. In a letter to Bihar chief Minister Mr Nitish Kumar, the minister sought his cooperation on the Centre's initiative to tackle the Naxal menace. Mr Chidambaram has also written to Jharkhand and West Bengal Chief Ministers inviting them for a meeting in Delhi before the launch of inter-state operations against the Naxals. In his letter to the chief ministers, the Home Minister wanted to be assured that they are on the same page with the Centre before the launch of inter-state operations against the Naxals.<br/><br/>West Bengal witnessed the worst attack by Maoists from Jharkhand on a police camp at Silda in West Midnapore early this week in which 24 jawans were killed.
