Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today reviewed anti-Naxal operations in Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra and held a close-door meeting with high-ranking officials to assess the preparedness of security forces in tackling the menace. This is the first ever visit by a Union Home Minister to Gadchiorli, where Central para-military forces have been deployed to counter the Naxal threat. He arrived at the Maoist-dominated district at around 10 this morning and held a meeting with Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil, Minister of State for Home Pratik Patil, DGP D Sivanandan and other senior officers from revenue and police department. Meanwhile, some MLAs and MLCs were annoyed when they were not allowed to attend the meeting. Mr Chidambaram, however, met them individually later.
