Home Minister P. Chidambaram has called upon the militant group operating in North East to come forward for talks. Winding up his two day visit to Manipur, Mr. Chidambaram said that the Centre is working for solving problems of this region and stressed that peace is necessary for development and good governance. Chidambaram said, violence will not solve any problem, rather it will increase the misery of the common people. He said, the incident of violence in the state has come down. However, increased incident of kidnapping for ransom and extortion is a matter of great concern. AIR Imphal correspondent reports that Mr. Chidambaram appealed to the militant for a negotiated settlement is not a new one but his visit to the designated camp of the Kuki militant assumes special significance.
