Chidambaram reaches Jammu to review security situation of the state

The Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram arrived in Jammu on a brief visit to review the security situation of the State at a Unified Command Meeting. Soon after his arrival at the technical airport, Mr. Chidambaram straightway went to the official residence of the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah where he is in a review meeting with the top brass of all security agencies and civil administration. The Home Minister’s visit assumes significance as it comes a few days after he accepted the idea mooted by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to give amnesty to Kashmiri youths, held up in Pak Occupied Kashmir, who wish to return, and join the national mainstream after giving up arms.

AIR Correspondent reports that strong objections were raised by Jammu based Political parties to the ‘Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy’ for the Kashmiri Youth, who are in Pak Occupied Kashmir. In view of the decision of these organisations to hold demonstrations during the visit of Union Home Minister, security measures have been strengthened in entire Jammu city with deployment of additional Police and security forces.
