India has conveyed to Islamabad that information from the interrogation of LeT Terrorist Abu Jundal clearly points to involvement of Pakistan in the terror attack in Mumbai. Speaking to newsmen in Kolkata today, the Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram said that information received from interrogation clearly pointed to involvement of non-state sectors and state sectors in Pakistan who were behind the 26/11 attack in Mumbai. Referring to the Dentewada episode, the Home Minister said that it was a genuine encounter and reiterated that he was sorry if any innocent person was killed. Mr. Chidambaram said, the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh wanted an inquiry and he is free to have that.
Mr. Chidambaram who is also Chairman of the Group of Ministers, GoM on Media, said that the country has a record production of rice and wheat this time. He said that after meeting the domestic need, some quantity of wheat will be off loaded to the export market. Mr. Chidambaram informed that 5 million tonnes of wheat will be distributed to the BPL families soon as the godowns are overflowing.
Referring to the country’s economic situation, he said that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is taking several steps to address the financial crisis and hoped that the GDP will again come back to above 8 per cent in the current financial year. The Home Minister said that the Centre will continue to support West Bengal in every way and hoped that the Centre and State Government will find a way to solve the financial problem in West Bengal. Referring to the Left wing extremist activities, the Home Minister said that it has significantly come down in three districts of West Bengal though there is still threat of their regrouping.
Speaking to newsmen another member of the GoM on Media and Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal said that the Centre is going to enact a legislation Educational Malpractices Act to check corruption in educational institutions.
