The Union Home minister today arrived in Raipur to take stock of the naxal situation in Chhattisgarh. Mr Chidambarm is reviewing the steps taken by the state government in combating naxalism as well as in the implementation of the developmental schemes in naxal affected areas of the state in a meeting. The high level meeting is being attended by the Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh, the state Home minister Mr. Nankiram Kanwar along with top level officials.
Home Minister P Chidambaram will hold a high level meeting with the Maharashtra government in Mumbai this evening on the naxal menace in Gadchiroli and Gondia districts of Vidarbha. Our correspondent reports that he will be arriving in Mumbai from Raipur this afternoon. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Home Minister R R Patil and top police officials will be present at the meeting. The state government is to present an action report to the Union Home Minister enlisting its successes and failures in the last 11 months in efforts to curb the Naxalite problem in Gadchiroli and Gondhia districts. The implementation of the Integrated Action Plan where central funds are provided for development of Naxal infested districts will also be reviewed in today’s meeting.
