Chidambaram holds hi-level meeting to review law & order situation

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today convened a high level meeting of Jammu Area Command and reviewed law and order situation in the State. The meeting was attended by Additional Director General Security, Additional Director General CID, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, OIGP, Jammu, Senior Officers of BSF, CRPF, Corps Commanders of 9 and 16 Corps and other senior officers of Civil and Police Administration. <br/>AIR correspondent R.K. Raina reports from Jammu that after reviewing the security scenario at the high level meeting in Jammu this evening, the Union Home Minister addressed a Press Conference wherein he expressed satisfaction over the situation in the state particularly in Jammu division. He said that the security apparatus in Jammu Division is in total command of the security situation which is evident from the fact that many top militants have been eliminated by the security Forces while loss of security forces and civilians is all time low. He said that security forces have achieved considerable success in their fight against militancy and that forces are well control of the situation in the State. When asked about the spurt in infiltration from across the border by militants, Mr. Chidambaram said that there is no spurt in the infiltration from across the border though he admitted that repeated attempts are being made by militants from across the border to infiltrate into this side. <br/>About ban imposed by the Union Home Ministry on pre-paid mobile connections in J&K State, the Union Minister said that it was the considerate decision of the Union Government taken in view of the security considerations.<br/>
