Chidambaram greets officers of National Disaster Response Force

Home Minister P Chidambaram has greeted the officers of National Disaster Response Force on its Raising Day today. In his message, Mr. Chidambaram said that NDRF is a unique force having proved its worth by rescuing thousands of people in disasters in several parts of the country. He said that timely response of NDRF personnel during floods in North East, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, UP, Punjab and Haryana, cloudburst in Leh and many other occasions saved precious human lives. Mr. Chidambaram expressed hope that NDRF will carry forward its good work with indefatigable spirit and enthusiasm. AIR correspondent reports that NDRF is a specialised force under the National Disaster Management Authority for all types of natural and man made disasters. At present this force consists of nine operational battalions with 144 specialised and fully equipped search and rescue teams.
