Chidambaram emphasizes on mid-career specialization for senior police officers

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has emphasized the need for mid-career specialization for Senior Police Officers in the Country. Addressing trainee IPS officers at a Passing out Parade at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad this morning the Home minister said a proposal is under consideration to make the mid-career specialization must for all Police Officers. He asked the premium police academy to consider the proposal and take initiatives to include specializations such as Law and Order, investigation, counter intelligence and counter terrorism and Boarder guarding in the curricula of various training courses for police officers.

He said Policing is facing challenges from more and more adversaries and police officers should master the emerging advance technologies, acquire knowledge about new weaponry and achieve new alliances with every section of the society to efficiently counter the adversaries.

Academy Director V N Rai said several training infrastructure projects including setting up of National Digital Crime Resource and Training Centre have been taken up at the academy with Government granting 200 crore rupees.

Earlier, the home minister inspected a colourful parade of a total 134 police officer including 21 women, 4 each from Royal Bhutan and Maldivian Police and 3 from Nepal police.
