Chidambaram dismisses reports of Pak pushing Taliban in J&K

The Government on Wednesday dismissed as baseless reports that Taliban militants are being pushed into Jammu and Kashmir to foment terror. Reacting to media reports in this regard, the Home Minister P. Chidambaram said in Mumbai that security forces are ready to deal with any situation. He said, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been doing a good job and the forces are now being readying to take the frontline job of tackling the militants. Talking tough, a day after the beheading of a Jharkhand police officer, Mr. Chidambaram said, the security forces will engage the Maoists till they abjure violence. Mr. Chidambaram said, the government do not consider the Naxalite confrontation as a war. He said, the naxalites or CPI(Maoists) must give up violence and take the path of democracy and dialogue. The Home Minister said, the Centre would help the state governments to discuss with the CPI(Maoists) all issues concerning them, including developmental issues. Mr. Chidambaram announced that a bravery award will be given to 22-year-old Rukhsana, who killed a top Lashkar-e-Tayeba terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir recently. Defence Minister A K Antony has accused Pakistan of not being willing to act against terrorists infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir from its side of the border, even after the Mumbai attacks last November.
