Chidambaram condemns Maoists’ Kangaroo courts, brutal executions

Strongly condemning the Kangaroo courts and brutal executions being carried out by the CPI (Maoists), the Home Minister today said that 21 people have been killed in this manner in the first eight months of this year. Speaking about the continued violent activities of the CPI Maoists across the States affected by Left Wing Extremism, Mr. P Chidambaram said that the executions are carried out in full public view to strike terror in the hearts of the villagers. He said that the number of such Jan Adalats has risen from 38 last year to 48 this year till August. He said that the policemen and alleged police informers are the targets of the CPI Maoists. He regretted that the media or the public have not sufficiently noticed this brutality by the CPI Maoists. He said, Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Prades have been declared as disturbed areas for a further period of six months from today. This is being done under the ambit of Armed Forces Special Powers Act. The Home Minister has described the progress of talks on the Gorkha land issue as satisfactory. He hoped that an agreement on interim authority will be reached at the next round of tripartite talks on the demands of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha to be held on the 11th of this month.
