The Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram has cautioned against incidence of people from across the border trying to get themselves enrolled in the National Population Register(NPR). He said that it is a must for local level officials as well as elected representatives to be alive to this fact and act in time. Mr Chidambaram said that Collectors of Districts who are facing special threat need to be extra vigilant. He was addressing a conference of districts magistrates and senior officials of states and central government on National Population Register in New Delhi today. <br/><br/>Mr Chidambaram said that special efforts are required to ensure the coverage of vulnerable sections of society like the elderly, weak, disabled and marginalised for the enrollment in theN national Population Register. Mr. Chidambaram pointed out that previous experience shows that women and children are left out in such exercises and the Districts Collectors will have to think of innovative ways to see that all these people are covered without any duplication.<br/> <br/>The Home Minister said that the issuance of Identity Cards to more than a billion people is an enormous task given the vastness and complexities. He said that the emphasis should be on inclusion rather than exclusion. AIR correspondent says that more than 2.5 million field functionaries are involved in the project.<br/>
