The Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram today assured the agitating BJP members in the Rajya Sabha that he would look into any police excesses committed during BJP rally in the capital yesterday. Mr Chidambaram was responding to the concern expressed by senior party leader Mr Venkaiah Naidu, who demanded a judicial probe into the incident and action against those police personnel responsible. Displaying newspapers, Mr Naidu said 200 party activists were injured with several of them with serious injuries. Quoting a report from police, Mr Chidambaram said 28 BJP workers, two media persons and 15 police personnel were injured in the incident. He said only person with serious injuries was admitted to the RML hospital. Mr. Chidambaram said that he would also examine the video recording of the incident. The Home Minister said the police had resorted to lathi-charge only after it failed to control the BJP workers through water canoning. Later, the Leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley drew attention of the Home Minister to the newspaper reports and asked him to independently ascertain the facts.Earlier, the house was adjourned for one hour as BJP members strongly protested against the incident demanding government's intervention saying that the incident was unprecedented in the national capital. The issue was also raised in the Lok Sabha by senior party leaders including Mr L K Advani.
