Chidambaram admits indications of failure in some aspects on police camp attack in WB

The Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram accepted there were indications of failure in some aspects that led to the attack on the police camp in West Bengal and also questioned the silence of Naxal sympathisers and intellectuals. Strongly condemning the attack, the Home Minister said that a thorough review will reveal how the camp with adequate strength was overrun in broad daylight by the CPI(Maoist). In a strongly worded statement, Mr. Chidambaram described the attack on the police camp as outrageous saying that this was yet another attempt by the Maoists to overawe the established authority in the state.<br/><br/>The West Bengal government has decided to intensify operation against Maoists. The State Home Secretary Mr. Ardhendu Sen said in Kolkata that there is no possibility of talks with Maoists at this juncture. The State Chief Secretary Mr. Ashok Mohan Chakraborty asserted that joint operation against Maoists will continue. <br/><br/>The state Director General of Police Mr. Bhupinder Singh said police will review the security situation.<br/>Meanwhile, the CPI(M) asked the Centre to launch a joint operation across the border in Jharkhand without delay to flush out the Left wing extremists.
