Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has accused Tamil Nadu Government of ruining the 30,000 crore rupee Mahathma Gandhi National Rural employment guarantee scheme – MNREGS. Canvassing for his son and Congress candidate for Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency Karti Chidambaram, Chidambaram said Tamilnadu government is paying the beneficiaries only about half the amount of what the Centre was giving.

He asked the voters to pose the question as to “Why the
Tamil Nadu Government is giving only 70 or 80 rupees when the Union Government is giving 148 rupees per day.

He said MNREGS is essential for water-starved district
like Sivaganga.
