Home Minister P Chidambaram today accepted full responsibility for the Dantewada massacre of a CRPF contingent by Naxalites and said the buck stops at his desk.<br/><br/>Mr Chidambaram said, a day after the massacre, he had given it in writing to Prime Minister that he accepts full responsibility for the attack. <br/><br/>Addressing the 'Shourya Diwas' (valour day) of CRPF, the Home Minister lauded the sacrifices of the paramilitary force and said the government is trying to ensure that personnel from it were well-paid, well-housed and well-equipped. <br/><br/>He also said his Ministry will ensure that the families of slain jawans received compensation by the end of this month and one member from each of them got a job and a related development , Army chief General V K Singh said that there were internal deficiencies in the way the CRPF carried out the Dantewada operation. <br/><br/>He said, the battalion involved was not trained by the army. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters last evening, Mr Singh said, over 40,000 police and CRPF personnel have been trained by the army in counter-insurgency operations. <br/><br/>He said the army is trying to see what more help it could provide to the CRPF and state police forces and it is suggesting some measures to the Home Ministry. <br/><br/>On the other hand, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said the option of talks with Naxals should remain open but wondered how long can the Centre and state governments could wait for the parleys to begin with the ultras.<br/><br/>Mr Singh said a probe has been ordered into the massacre and it would shed light on what went wrong. <br/><br/>The Chief Minister said a consensus was evolving among the CMs of Naxal-hit states to wipe out the menace. <br/><br/>In West Bengal, in the biggest haul since anti-Maoist operations began last June, the joint forces have seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives in West Midnapore district. <br/><br/>West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said, the seizures included AK-47 and INSAS rifles, nine SBBL and DBBL rifles, a huge number of cartridges, detonators, gelatin sticks, crude bombs, splinters, one km wire, besides fax and xerox machines, computers, printers, CDs and electronic gadgets. <br/>
