Chhattisgarh abduction: Mediators visit Sukma today

In Chhattisgarh, the Maoist negotiators—BD Sharama and Prof. Hargopal—are likely to visit Tadmetla in Sukma district today in their effort to seek release of the abducted district collector Alex Paul Menon, who was taken hostage by the Maoists last week. Chief Minister DR. Raman Singh has assured them of all help. Two rounds of talks between the mediators of the state government and the maoists have already taken place in Raipur during the last two days. The talks are being held to consider the feasibility of the demands made by the Maoists in exchange of the release of the collector. The Maoists have demanded, among others, the release of 17 of their comrades, now in jail; the release of jailed tribals who are allegdely implicated in forged cases and putting an end to the operation green hunt.
