Chhattisgarh: 52% polling recorded in Maoist affected Bastar LS seat

In Chhattisgarh, 52 percent polling was recorded in Maoist affected Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. Balloting could not take place at pollampalli booth because of failure of Electronic Voting Machine. Barring stray incidents of firing, polling was by and large peaceful in the constituency where Maoists had given a call for boycott of elections. No major untoward incident was reported so far from anywhere in the constituency.

Maoists made unsuccessful attempts to disrupt polling at many places in tribal Bastar constituency in Chhattisgarh. Maoists attacked a team of security personnel, who were escorting a polling party which was returning after polling in Sukma district. A constable was injured in this attack. Security forces also recovered huge quantity of explosives, including IEDs. planted by Maoists near some polling stations. Electoral fate of eight candidates from Bastar constituency was sealed today in electronic voting machines.
