Chhattisgarh 2nd phase assembly elections: Polling gets underway in 72 constituencies

In Chhattisgarh, polling began in 72 assembly constituencies in second phase of elections. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in all the constituencies, including Maoist affected areas. The electoral fate of 842 candidates, including 75 women, will be decided today. For balloting, more than eighteen thousand polling booths have been set up.

AIR correspondent reports that 17 seats are reserved for the scheduled tribes, while nine for the scheduled castes in the second phase of elections.

Meanwhile, Maoists opened fire on a polling party in Gariyaband district last night. However, no casualty was reported. Security forces recovered four bombs from the spot.
