Former world champion Viswanathan Anand has bowed out of contention for a ticket to the World Chess Championship. After the conclusion of the 13th and penultimate round in Moscow yesterday, Anand was in sole third spot with seven points after he played out a draw with Anish Giri of Holland. Sergey Karjakin of Ukraine and Fabiano Caruana of United States shared the lead with Seven and a half points each. They will meet each other in the deciding final round. Either Sergey Karjakin or Fabiano Caruana will challenge Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the next World Championship match slated to be held in November this year. For the first time in 10 years, there will be a World Championship without Anand, who has won the crown as many as five times. Anand's last round result against Peter Svidler of Russia will prove crucial in case the game between Karjakin and Caruana ends in a draw. If Anand wins, Caruana will have better tie-break than Karjakin while if Anand also draws, Karjakin will take over in tie-breaks.
