The total number of COVID-19 infected people in Chennai has crossed the 10,500 mark today with the city recording 587 new cases today. The whole state of Tamil Nadu has recorded 765 new COVID-19 patients today surging the total tally past the 16,000 mark. <br />''<br />''More than two third of the state tally is in Chennai. On a positive note, 833 patients were discharged after cure on a single day today leaving the active caseload at 7,839. Since the city carries the maximum caseload of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, the administration has been cautious about lifting key restrictions in the city. <br />''<br />''However, the industry representatives were pressing for reopening the offices who assured that all safety protocols would be followed. Paying heed to their demands, the government has announced today that the units in the 17 industrial estates located outside the containment zones within Chennai can also function from Monday with just 25 per cent of the usual strength. <br />''<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The staff should not be from the containment areas and those having symptoms for the infection should be barred entry.  Those above 55-years of age have been discouraged from attending offices now.
