Chennai Port to invite bids for Mega Container Terminal Project

As Chennai emerges as the container hub of the sub continent, Chennai Port will shortly invite bids for its ambitious Mega Container Terminal Project estimated to cost 3686 crore rupees. Briefing newspersons in Chennai on Thursday, the Chairman of the Port Trust Capt Subhash Kumar said the port retained its position as the top terminal for the export of cars. The port handled the highest ever volume of 61.06 million tones of cargo in 2009-10 which is 6.20% over the previous fiscal.<br/><br/>On the Chennai-Ennore Port Road Connectivity Project, Capt Subhash said the construction of the road link from Chennai Port to Maduravoyal on NH-4 is expected to accelerate in the coming months. He said the SPV for the Project is inviting fresh tenders for the project which is essential for improving port connectivity. To promote Tamil Nadu as a destination for Cruise Tourism, the Chairman said the Port is holding discussions with the State Tourism Department. <br/><br/>For continuous surveillance of all ships in and around the port, tenders have been invited for the Vessel Traffic Management System
