Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr M.Karunanidhi has said that Chennai is emerging as Asia’s automobile capital. Inaugurating the 4500 crore rupees Renault- Nissan manufacturing plant at Oragadam near Chennai this morning he said out of the 20 top global automobile manufacturers, Chennai is now home to 7 auto majors companies.<br/><br/>He said on the state government’s initiative, the centre is establishing the national automotive testing research and development infrastructure project in Oragadam at cost of 450 crore rupees and this will facilitate introduction of world class automotive safety and emission standards.<br/><br/>Reminding the industries of their corporate social responsibility, the chief minister said it is the endeavor of the government to ensure that the benefits of these industries should reach the common man, by way of good job opportunities, higher wages and better standard of living.<br/><br/>Speaking at the function Deputy Chief Minister Mr M.K.Stalin said the state government is formulating a new policy for Automobiles and Components to attract more investments in the sector.
