Chennai Court dismisses Sasikala plea to be AIADMK General Secretary

Ms. Sasikala, the close confidante of former AIADMK Supremo and ex-Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa suffered a legal setback today, as the Chennai City Civil Court dismissed her plea to become the party General Secretary.
''
''After the demise of the AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa in December 2016, she was made the General Secretary and her nephew TTV Dinakaran was appointed the Deputy General Secretary.
''
''However, after her imprisonment in the Disproportionate Assets case, she and Mr Dinakaran were removed from the party's top posts by its General Council in September 2017. The new post of Coordinator was created and Mr O. Panneerselvam was accommodated in it. The then Chief Minister Mr Edappadi Palaniswamy became the party Co-Coordinator.
''
''Ms Sasikala and Mr Dinakaran contested the General Council resolutions in the court. However, Mr Panneerselvam and Mr Palaniswamy claimed that the apex court and the Election Commission have recognized the resolutions, thereby validating the legal sanctity of the party's council meeting.
''
''Meanwhile, Mr Dinakaran withdrew himself from the case in order to float his own political party.
''
''After hearing the arguments of both sides, City Civil Court Judge J. Sridevi today dismissed Ms Sasikala's petition.
