Chemical waste of Bhopal carbide factory not to be disposed off at Pithampur

Union minister for forest and environment Jairam Ramesh has said that the 350 ton chemical waste of Bhopal ‘s closed Union Carbide factory would not be disposed off at Pithampur near Indore. During an informal talk with the media at Bhopal on Wednesday he said, that he has got information that Defense Research and Development organization (DRDO) has technical resources and expertise to dispose off such chemical waste near Nagpur.Mr. Ramesh said that possibilities would be found out to dispose off Union carbide’s chemical waste there with the cooperation of defense ministry. He said, he will write a letter to the Defense minister in this connection. AIR correspondent reports, the Union Minister who was on a one day visit to Bhopal participated in a meeting organized on Bhopal gas tragedy related matters, and slo met the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
