Chavan: Mob vandalism at Azad Maidan Mumbai a conspiracy

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan has termed mob vandalism at the Azad Maidan Mumbai that happened last Saturday as a conspiracy. In a meeting with senior officials and journalists on Sunday the CM announced that the crime branch of the Mumbai police would examine the alleged involvement of external forces and anti-social elements in the violence, in which 45 police personnel and some journalists were injured and 2 persons lost their life.
He said the government would take strong action against those involved. The Chief Minister said that there was a possibility of a foreign hand. He said that he would soon visit Delhi to seek the help of the intelligence bureau and the home ministry to determine if there was a bigger conspiracy. The CM condemned the attack and visited the injured in hospital last night.
Meanwhile, the crime branch of the Mumbai police on Sunday arrested 23 persons from various parts of the city. The local court remanded the rioters to police custody till August 19.
