Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh would be participating in a function at Lekha Mendha village in Dhanora taluka of Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region this morning. They would announce inclusion of bamboo in the list of Minor Forest produce under the community domain for management through the Forest Rights Act. This will pave way for the effective participatory forest management for sustainable livelihood of the people and environment protection. With this, the small tribal village would become first in the country to get the official rights to harvest bamboo.
