Researchers in the United States have suggested that changes in the solar activity could lead to a temporary cooling of the earth's atmosphere. Papers published by the American Astronomical Society suggest that the normal eleven year cycle of magnetic activity on the surface of the sun has been disrupted. They say, the pattern echoes what happened in the 17th century during a period known as the “Little Ice Age” when global temperatures dropped by half a degree for 70 years.
