‘Chandrayan-II probe to be modified after discovery of water at Moon

ISRO Chairman Dr G Madhavan Nair has said that with India's maiden Moon mission making a path-breaking discovery about water presence<br/>on lunar surface, the objectives of Chandrayaan-II would be modified for further probes into that aspect. Talking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram today he said, this major achievement has been taken very seriously by scientists the world over and there should be more enquiries on the source of water.<br/>Mr. Nair said it has to be found out whether there would be more water towards the pole of the Moon. He said certain changes would have to be made on the mission objectives of Chandrayaan-II for further enquiries in that direction. The ISRO Chairman also said the GSLV in the present cryogenic stage is expected to be launched by this year. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent Ajit Chakraborty reports from Kolkata that Vijaya Dasami is being celebrated throughout West Bengal with immersion of Durga idols. People are exchanging greetings and sweets to each other on the occasion of Vijaya Dasami. Special security measures have been taken at various river banks for immersion of Durga idols. Large crowd have been gathered at Babu ghat in Kolkata to witness the immersion. The West Bengal Tourism Development corporation has organised special launch cruise on river ganges to watch immersion. The State Pollution control board is very much vigilant this time against the pollution of river caused by the immersion of idols. As the evening progressed the immersion is gradually picking up. But bulk immersion will take place tomorrow.<br/> <br/> In the Kashmir valley Kashmiri pandits celebrated Dussera after twenty years at TRC GROUND. A sizeable number of local muslims joined the celebration signifying revival of age old tradition of amity among two communities that has come under strain after on set of militancy.The effigies of Rawan,Magnath and kuumbakarn were burnt symbolising victory of virtue over evil. Thousands of tiny tots were initiated into the world of letters today in temples and churches across the state. Socio-cultural orgnisations also organised traditional functions to fecilitate vidyarabham ceremony for young children.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent R.K. Pillar reports that right from the wee hours toaday temples especially prominent devi temples of kerala witnessed heavy rush of devotees with tiny tots in their arms. To intiate their little ones into the world of letters and knowledge parents of kerala eagerly wait for vijayadashami day. Long queues of parents and kids in tradtional costumes were seen in temples across the state. Churches also celebrated the day initiating young ones of christian families into the world of letters. Spontaneous celebrations were seen in temples, churches and cultural centers of the state reinforcing the fabrics of secular tradtions of Kerala. In some places even promienent poets and men of letters also joined the tiny tots for the ceremony as way of paying reverence to the blessing of the Godess saraswati.<br/><br/> The Vice-president Mohd Hamid Ansari, the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and the Congress President Mrs.Sonia Gandhi joined the people in cellebrating Dussehra in New Delhi. As the effigies, stuffed with crackers, of demon king Ravana along with his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhkaran went up in flames between 6 and 6.30 pm, people, along with various dignitaries present, witnessed spectacular fireworks illuminating the sky.<br/> All the dignitaries, included Delhi Lt Governor Tejender Khanna,Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dikshit and the Human Resource Minister Mr.Kapil Sibal,They first participated inthe celebrations at Subhash Ground and then at Ramlila Ground, both located opposite each other. The leaders also released doves along with balloons in the air, sending out a message of peace and harmony.<br/>Menwhile Durga Puja celebrations also came to an end in the National Capital with the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga in the capital.
